You have an opportunity to be part of Winston Park’s security solution by signing up to become a member of WPG. We don’t say that lightly. The truth is, the only way we’ll live safely in our homes is to take control of our security. No one else is going to do it for us. We have a plan. It’s a good plan, and it’s going to cost some money. Your monthly contribution will help us to put it into action. You can see more on the cost breakdown below. But first, the plan.

Community owned

WPG is registered as a section 21 not-for-profit company and owned entirely by the community. This means that there are no profit margins and no third parties. All money coming in is fed directly back into Winston Park crime-related and community initiatives.

Guards and rangers

Historically the vast majority of our crime came from the gorges and cliffs around Winston Park, however, crime has now evolved to the extent that all areas of Winston Park are equally at risk. We have begun employing a team of highly skilled Rangers to patrol & monitor our roads and bush around the clock, both physically and by means of hi tech covert surveillance and detection equipment. Rangers are typically ex SAPS, military or security personnel and live with their families in Winston Park as members of our community. The strategic approach of WPG is one of Proaction, rather than Reaction as our goal is to stop criminals BEFORE they reach our homes. We don’t want the crime and trauma to happen in the first place. Its a different approach requiring a lot of R&D as this type of thing isn’t bought off a shelf.  But as results are showing,  it works!!!

Cliff barriers

We are fortunate in WP that we have mostly sheer cliff faces that act as natural security barriers. There are however a few vulnerable access points currently being used by criminals to access Winston Park. These are critical points and much of our spend goes into protecting these areas. Your membership fees are critical to both the long term sustainability of the project and our ability to develop ways and means to protect our borders.

Advanced surveillance technology

We want more than to keep criminals out. We want to make sure they’re apprehended. We have invested a lot of money & extreme amounts of time into Covert Surveillance. We have developed some exceptional equipment, the rest as they say, is Classified…

Preferred armed response partners

How effective is your current armed response? We’ve negotiated service level agreements with the following companies to provide sustainable enhanced services that will benefit the residents of WP:

• C-OPS Security. C-OPS are the current employers of our guards and rangers on behalf of WPG (as they hold all the necessary licenses). In addition, WPG members pay R50 per month less for their armed response if they choose C-OPS. We encourage all our members to sign up for their armed response with C-OPS as they were voted by the community as the current preferred armed response provider.
• Blue Security

If you’re a Guardian member you have access to their preferential rates.

Winston Park control room

Signed up WPG residents have direct access to our on duty ranger emergency numbers. Incidents are also passed on to the C-OPS control room who can further mobilise necessary emergency services like SAPS, ambulances, the fire brigade, etc.

Private investigators and informants

The employment of PIs and establishing trusted informants is a critical component to the project’s success. These services have already been used to good effect and has contributed to the successful arrest of 3 perpetrators.

Community communication

Signed up members have access to community information platforms. Get connected to a WhatsApp Crimewatch group. These keep us informed of crime-related incidents around Winston Park. It’s eye-opening to know what goes on around here. Contact us if you’d like to be added to a crimewatch group (or other community chat groups).

Continuous improvement

We’re a work in progress. Winston Park Guardians is made up of a group of people just like you. We are residents, husbands, wives, moms, dads, business owners, employees. We have jobs to hold down, families to support, commitments to meet. We have limited bank balances and we’re short on time. But we’re doing our best to make our community safer for you, me, our families and neighbours. With that in mind, we’re open to feedback and ideas. Cost

This is a 100% community owned project operating under the Winston Park Guardians. This means that all money coming in goes directly back into crime prevention and Winston Park community initiatives.
