About Winston Park Guardians

How did Winston Park Guardians come about?

On 6 November 2013 the WP community had a landmark meeting. We wanted to do something about the escalating crime in our neighbourhood. The meeting focussed mainly on security concerns and solutions in our area.

  • A committee was elected to represent our community in providing a solution for crime prevention and various other community-based projects. Hence Winston Park Guardians (WPG) was born.
  • WPG became an official sub-forum of the Hillcrest CPF (as per the constitution in the presence of  the Department of Community Safety and Liaison and the SAPS).

Who are our current service providers?

Signed up WP residents have access to the Winston Park control room, which is currently outsourced to C-OPS Security, who are also responsible for managing our rangers and guards.

This partnership also gives WPG members access to additional benefits:

  • Management of WPG rangers and check point guards
  • 24 hour access to the Control Room & Call Centre Service
  • Support to our rangers in the event of a response action
  • Vehicle Registration Number Identification and Cellular telephone tracking
  • Links to key response role-players like SAPS, ambulances, the fire brigade, etc.

What this means is the residents of Winston Park (you, me, our neighbours) are in full control and that we as a community will run and manage our own community policing operational initiatives (including hiring, training and equipping our guards & rangers), all through a non-profit structure. We’ve also negotiated service level agreements with various preferred armed response companies to provide sustainable enhanced services that will benefit the residents of WP.

Who’s managing WPG?

Winston Park Guardians is headed up by a committee of Winston Park residents. The committee is open to all and everyone who is willing to offer their time and expertise. Please contact us if you would like to get involved! In addition to the committee we also have a bunch of  wonderful volunteers who help with various activities like the reaction team, finding the owners of lost dogs, the sports field project etc. No one is paid. Everyone gives of their time and resources for the betterment of our community.

This is a community driven project and can only be a success with the input of all!
